Hamish Kirk – Business Services Manager

Hamish’s association with hanrahans dates back to 2009 when he provided certain specialised services as a contractor.  He subsequently become an employee and was appointed Business Services Manager in 2013.  He specialises in superannuation, financial reporting, audit and tax compliance.

Hamish has a unique background which combines a commercial savvy mindset with strong interpersonal and technical skills. He utilises this experience to support and mentor our junior accountants.

Hamish was educated in New Zealand where he graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Business Studies majoring in Accountancy from Massey University.

Prior to becoming an accountant, Hamish worked in a variety of fields including client counselling, debt collection and management. This background gives him valuable insight into the everyday pressures of life, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to find solutions to complex problems outside of ‘just the numbers’.

Hamish started his accounting career in 2000 and joined a medium sized Chartered Accounting practice in Christchurch, New Zealand.  Since migrating to Australia in 2005, he has gained extensive experience in Australian financial and management accounting, audit and forensic accounting, superannuation and tax compliance.

Hamish had a stint in commercial operations between 2005 and 2006 when he was head hunted to become the Finance Manager to a company employing over 700 people. There he managed a team of 5 accounting staff and had responsibilities for two major restructures.

After a successful period in commerce, Hamish made a decision to move back into the public accounting environment. This shift allowed him to further sharpen his technical skills in superannuation, financial reporting, audit and tax planning. He was promoted to Practice Manager of a Chartered Accounting practice in 2008.

Hamish had dual membership of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) prior to the amalgamation of these two entities and is recognised as a Chartered Accountant in both New Zealand and Australia.

Hamish happily lives in Sydney with his daughter and enjoys spending time with his family and friends.  He has interests in rugby union, photography, music golf, cricket and the arts.
